07:56 am - Christmas Cards 2009: Being Human- Simple Gifts
Title: Simple Gifts
Author: Kuzibah
Fandom: Being Human
Pairing(s): None.
Rating: G
Word Count: approx. 5,000
Disclaimer: Characters and situations are the property of the BBC and affiliated producers and writers. This story is not written for profit and no copyright infringement is intended or implied.
Warnings: Possible inappropriate Americanisms, especially regarding holiday traditions.
Summary: Mitchell, George, and Annie celebrate the holidays. In very different ways, as it happens, or maybe not so different after all. Not sure where exactly this falls in the series timeline, probably pre-Series One, as Nina is not in the picture.

07:21 am - Christmas Cards 2009: Torchwood- Gift from Above (3/3)
Title: Gift from Above (part three of three)
Author: Kuzibah
Rating: Not particularly explicit- nothing worse than the show.
Length: approx. 8,700/22,800
Spoilers: Spoilers through S2, then proceeding from my retool of CoE, Shell Shock. (Basically, CoE didn’t happen, Jack and Ianto have left Torchwood formally, although they remain on the payroll as “advisers.” Various characters from CoE are actually in Torchwood. You can probably follow fine if you haven’t read “Shell Shock,” since the action is mostly around Jack and Ianto.)
Pairings: Jack/Ianto
Warnings: Possible inappropriate Americanisms.
Disclaimer: Characters and situations are the property of the BBC and affiliated producers and writers. This story is not written for profit and no copyright infringement is intended or implied.
Summary: Jack and Ianto are pressed into service for Torchwood to help care for an orphaned baby alien. A decidedly NOT adorable baby alien. Proceeds from “Shell Shock,” as noted in the spoiler warning, but with more action and less angst.

( Previous books )
24. Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett -- Not as funny as his first two books, but I still enjoyed it.
25. All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris -- Book 7 of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. This one had her at a multi-state vampire summit. Yeah...lot's of intrigue. It was a real page turner. Oh...and that little thing that happened at the end...I don't see how that could turn out at all good.

Holiday stories are back… sort of. Just two this year: a long Torchwood one in three parts, and then a Being Human one (also not exactly short) on the fourth day. I hope you all enjoy them, and I hope you all have a happy holiday season.

09:04 pm - A Picture a Day -- Week 51
08:25 pm - Random Update
*
doomsey and I went to see Avatar this afternoon. I thought it was amazing. It's a very beautiful film.
* Our server crashed last night, so most of the pictures on my picture-a-day posts have disappeared.
doomsey is going to try to get it back up and running tomorrow. In the mean time, I've decided to start putting some of my pictures on Flickr. The most recent week's pictures are there.
* Cosette's appetite has been down this week. It started out with her being barfy, but she's not throwing up anymore. Now she's just picking at her food. She eats, but she's not hoggie dogging it down like she used to. She won't eat her dry food at all anymore unless I put moist food on top of it. I don't know if she's being a finicky eater because her IBD is acting up or if it's her wonky kidneys are making her feel sick. I'm hoping that she'll be better again next week so I don't have to drag her furry ass back to the vet again.

This is the winner of this years Ukraine's Got Talent, and was described as the winner to end all "Got Talent" shows. It might be hyperbole, but it has more than a few grains of truth in it. Art, music, history, and a lesson in transience. This 24 year old, who has been practicing her art for a year, should be as big as Susan Boyle.

07:43 pm - Books I've Read So Far This Year
( Previous books )
23. The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell -- I've been meaning to read this book for a long time. Campbell combs through the mythology and religions of many different cultures-- both eastern and western-- and finds the tropes that all hero quests have in common: setting out to prove themselves, getting supernatural aid in their quest, reconciling with the father, return to civilization, etc. He also brings in psychology and how the human mind is still in need of the symbols seen in mythology, even after we have abandoned the old stories in favor of science. Campbell also talks about how, in the modern era, these symbols sometimes reappear in our dreams. (He brings up Jung in a number of places). It's a very "thinky" book as it can get quite esoteric in places, but it's definitely worthwhile.
05:21 pm - A Picture a Day -- Week 50
Yeah...I got a little carried away with pictures this week. Also, for someone who doesn't like the snow or the cold, I certainly take a lot of pictures out in the snow and cold. What can I say? At least it's pretty.

08:08 pm - Yay! Fiction!
I've been telling
doomsey for a couple of weeks now that I was going to write this story. I emailed it to him this evening and got a chuckle out of him, so it must have been amusing.
The story is a little over 1,000 words. Don't have a name for it yet.

09:07 pm - Throw Your Arms Around the World
Every year I compile a CD of Christmas music to send to friends, my version of a Christmas letter. I love Christmas music, and have a fairly large collection, and I enjoy sifting through the new acquisitions to compile the mix. I also try to include songs that have some significance or meaning to the year past, even if it’s only to me. (For instance, the inclusion of “Snoopy’s Christmas” a few years ago was in memory of a friend who had died; it was her favorite Christmas song.)
Anyway, this year I felt like sharing the thought process. If nothing is noted, it’s just because I liked the song.
( Cut for those who hate Christmas music )
